Over the years, I have lived in seven states and many unique environments, each of which influenced the artwork I produced during that period of time. Since I was a child, I’ve collected bits of nature to recall sweet, peaceful days I spent outdoors. This is a habit I still enjoy, but as I grow older the bits seem to only get larger.

“Lagoon” is one of those sweet reminders. The piece is modeled from a husky palm tree frond that I found on one of my last days of living in Florida. The moment I saw it on the pier, I envisioned the seductive form captured in crystal, so there was no doubt it would be moving with me to Minnesota!

Due to the frond’s depth and complexity, I had to cast the thin crystal form three times before finally achieving success. Ultimately invested in many layers of special plasters and cast using the lost wax method, the exquisitely feminine form emerged exactly as I had imagined. 19″ x 11″ x 8″

Once the crystal form was finished, talented metal sculptor Judd Nelson helped me craft the sturdy, forged steel and copper cradle base with a lovely, verde green patina.
